THE USE OF THE INTERNET BY ORTHOPAEDIC OUTPATIENTS

An article appeared very recently in a leading orthopaedic surgery journal addressing the use of the internet by orthopaedic outpatients. There were a wide variety of internet sites consulted. Sites visited by patients certainly vary in quality and some provide misinformation. This can heighten anxiety within the patient and their families.

One thing is for certain that there is a steady upward trend of use of the internet by patients to gather information regarding their health.

We certainly believe that the information provided in the Online Orthopaedics web site is timely, correct, and of good quality.

The Health On the Net Foundation (HON) has guidelines to certify medical web sites and is attempting to insure that the content of the medical web sites is fact rather than fiction. For more information regarding HON, visit www.hon.ch.
