Early Obesity Raises Risk of Hip Replacement

A recently published study found that overweight young adults had a higher risk of needing a hip replacement in later life than people who gained weight as they aged. The findings were based on data from Norway that studied 1.2 million adults who were screened.

Researchers found that the risk of hip replacement rose along with body mass index and was higher for people who were overweight as young adults, particularly men and women who were heavy before age 25.

It is interesting to me that these studies almost always mirror our own office experience. While in an office the numbers are exceedingly small compared with large studies, the conclusions are usually similar.
